Early morning ~ 7.00 am departure. A trip through Kaunas to Varniai, one of the most important centers of Lithuanian culture not only in Samogitia, but also in the entire Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Simonas Daukantas (1793–1864) lived in Varniai, the writers Antanas Baranauskas (1835–1902), Antanas Strazdas (1763–1833), Motiejus Valančius (1801–1875; his surviving house in Varniai lived in Lithuania). wrote the historical work “Samogitian Diocese”), Antanas Vienažindys. We visit (if possible) Varniai St. the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, which stands on the left bank of the Crow. It is a baroque, basilica, cross-plan, two-tower church. We are going to Telšiai, a town by Lake Mutis. The guide will introduce you to the capital of Samogitia, the central part of which is an urban monument.

We continue to Plungė. The local guide introduces Oginskiai manor park and the history of the manor (the manor is closed, reconstruction is underway, the museum expositions will be closed from June 6, 2012 to January 31, 2015).

A trip to Vilnius through Šiauliai and Panevėžys. Returning late in the evening.
