Panemunė castles – Rusnė – Ventė cape
Departure early in the morning. We are heading towards Panemunė castles. We visit Seredžiai, Palemonas mound.
In Panemunė in the 13th century. a system of defensive castles was built to fight the Crusaders. One of them was in Veliuona on the so-called Castle Hill, next to it is the mound of Gediminas Tomb. It is said that Prince Gediminas is buried here. The town has a monument of Renaissance architecture – 17th century. built in the middle of St. Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the 19th c. pr. A monument of classicist architecture is the homestead of Veliuona manor with a park, where the only tulip trees grow in Lithuania. In the center of the town in 1930. a monument to Vytautas the Great was built.
In Raudone we visit the castle, we admire the bends of the Nemunas from the observation deck of the tower. In the castle park, we touch the Gediminas oak, which is believed to have been planted by Duke Gediminas himself; nineteen July. We visit Panemunė Castle, also known in history as Gelgaudai Castle (17th century BC), which is surrounded by a park with cascading ponds. It was also painted by the famous Russian artist N. Rerich, who visited here in 1903.
The beginning of Jurbarkas city – 13th century. Georgenburg Castle was built by the Crusaders. The Lithuanian castle stood on another mound called Bišpilis. During the tour, we visit Bišpils mound, located in the city center in the 20th century. pr. St. Trinity Church, the memorial museum of the sculptor Vincas Grybs.
We arrive on Rusnė island, visit a fisherman’s homestead. Boating in the Nemunas delta and the Curonian Lagoon to Mingė village, smoked fish and fish dishes can be ordered.
Later we go to Ventė Cape, inspect the ornithological station and the museum installed in it. Whenever possible we observe the ringing of birds. Journey home. Returning late in the evening.
